Course Details

1 day 7 hour class, with 1 hour for lunch. Class size 6 to 8 people. 10am to 5pm Sundays. What to expect: In the day classes everyone will be shown how prepare the clay ready to work with. The team will be given a hand building demo and then be split into 2 groups where one group will move onto the wheels, where a demo will be given of how to centre, cone and lift the clay to make a cylinder. During the final 15 minutes of the morning class, everyone will help clean down ready for the afternoon class, where the teams will then swap round. Both teams will then have the opportunity to trim decorate and put an underglaze or coloured slip onto their pieces before the final 15 minute clean down. Once the teams pieces have dried after several days, we will then dip them into a final clear glaze and fire them once they’re ready. We will then inform you when your pieces are ready to be picked up usually 2 to 3 weeks later. FAQs * We will provide aprons (not split leg) but do bring your own if you prefer. * It’s always good to have an idea of what you’d like to make, but we can also help and guide you with this. Sometimes it’s worth making a rough sketch of what you might like to make. We can help guide you on how to go about making it, but be aware, mainly for the day classes, if this is a complicated form you may not have the time to create this in one class. * It is advised to remove long necklaces and all hand jewellery when working with clay. * Long finger nails and false nails don’t work well with throwing or hand building. * Hair will need to be tied back where applicable for safety reasons. * Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. * Food is not permitted to be consumed in the studio due to contamination, but do feel free to eat outside in our seating area. * NB: Not all pieces will be fired. Some pieces may be too thick to fire due to their potential explosion in the kiln. This will be left to the discretion of the kiln technician. * Pieces not picked up within the given time frame will be removed due to limited studio space. * We have a bathroom with wheelchair access.
